How my teaching will change because of technology

  • how your teaching and your students' learning will change this next year due to what you've learned this week in this workshop.
I will be using a lot more technology. Depending on what equipment I can get in my room, I will be also having the students creating with technology. I really like talking on the cell phone to create a podcast. This is technology that is available because a lot of my students have cell phones. We could or I could coordinate pictures from where they are participating in a lab with their comments from their phones. This idea could get really funny. I found a web quest about acids and bases to determine the problem of acid rain in a location. I saved it on my Wiki to use when we study acids and bases. Here, I will have to get access to computers for a couple of weeks.

Talking on my cell phone

A Shift in Teaching

Today, we talked about a shift in teaching. I found it interesting that students feel they can be more themselves and get to know more about themselves using technology. This is because they have to create while they are completing learning. They must choose different styles to share their findings. They might be using Pod casts or Power Points in which they must be creative while responding to their teacher or the students in their classroom. I never thought of that before.

Students in my classroom always have their cell phones with them. They are suppose to be in their lockers and turned off. Lucky for me, they keep them with them. In science class, we use them for calculators and timers. That saves the district money. The video "Paying Attention" on You Tube discusses that lots of students walk around with high powered computers in their pockets that they are told to turn off. I feel we should take advantage of what they have. One negative in our district is that lots of students don't have the money for the technology and can't share. Yet, they get the advantage of using the other students which helps them grow even though they can't afford it.

I have had students at our school make Pod casts of a trip to Washington D. C. They still remember that experience. Since then, my access to technology has become more limited. So, that is out of the question this year. I am pushing for more laptops in our high school. We will see.
Hi, my name is Lu Ann Lauer. This is my first blog. I am currently taking a technology class at Malone University. I am glad to be here to complete some hours and get some info. about new uses for technology.
